I don't know if any of you noticed a post from someone named "Evergreen" during the balloon launch thread. We've known each other since we were three years old. Needless to say, we've been through a lot together. I went to visit her in Colorado for her birthday a little over a month ago. I flew in on a Friday night. They say a good friend will pick you at at the airport, but it takes a REALLY good friend to pick you up at DIA. She definitely qualifies for that distinction. We probably sat in line for 30 minutes just to get OUT of the airport parking lot. Eventually we were on our way to her current hometown of Evergreen, CO where we went to a famous saloon called "Little Bear" and met up with a friend of mine from NetTrivia. If you know anything about Little Bear, I will tell you now that, no, my bra is not hanging from the ceiling. |
Saturday morning we got up early to feed her two-year-old twins (the kids like me, go figure), take a quick look around Evergreen in the daylight and then took the scenic drive to Estes Park for a "Mother of Twins" getaway weekend. |

By the time we got there, all but two of the other mothers had left to do their own sightseeing or shopping, so the four of us decided to head off to check out Rocky Mountain National Park. |

Meanwhile back at the ranch... We gathered back at the cabin around dusk. Twelve mothers of twins and I ALL stayed in one cabin. While it was a bit on the cozy side, it actually worked out quite well. Luckily (for me anyway) they wanted to get-a-way so they didn't dwell too much on "my little Edgar and Irwin just did the cutest thing!" Although I did have more than I needed of the potty training discussion. :) Oh, there was also no phone line in this cabin. ARGH! Aside from some slight tremors, I obviously survived a weekend with no computer access. Sunday morning Evergreen and I had breakfast duty. First time I've cooked in about 3 months and it ends up being for 13 people! OK, honestly? I wimped out and took the challenging duty of washing the grapes for the fruit salad. After we washed all the dishes, it was time to pack up, check out and take the rainy, winding road back to Denver for my Sunday flight back. Of course it was too short of a visit, but I cherish every last second of it. Thanks for the Safari to Colorado. It just got me thinking. What is it that forms a bond so strong that it keeps friends together, through trials, triumphs and miles, for 34 years (and counting)? |
