Angela sipped from her glass of wine and surveyed Cassie's apartment. "I like what you've done with the living room. And the entertainment center is terrific!" It was two days after the hockey game, and Angela was catching up with her best friend, who had just gotten back from a ten day visit with her long-distance boyfriend.

"I knew you'd like it. You're such an electronics snob!" replied Cassie. "But tell me about this dream of yours. I'm intrigued."

"Well, there wasn't much to it, " Angela began. "Basically, he had broken up with his girlfriend to be with me. And you and I were living together, and I was looking around our apartment to find you, to tell you. But a whole bunch of your friends were crashing with us, because they had all gone out to celebrate their last day of exams the night before. And I couldn't find you."

"Wow. So in your dream, had Sean and Faith ever gotten engaged?"

"Nope. But Cassie, that's not the weirdest part. He called me just before I came over here. He wanted to let me know why he hadn't been in class last week -"

"So I wasn't the only one?" Cassie had skipped the first day of classes in order to spend more time with her boyfriend.

"I'm telling you, Cassie, half the class must have thought we weren't starting til this week. That room was practically empty! But back to Sean's phone call. The brakes are on, he said. They're still seeing each other, but he's having some serious doubts. And he did not pop the question over break."

"Wow, squared. So now Sean is semi-available, and you have some hot guy's number from the hockey game last night. Speaking of whom, did you call him yet?"

Everyone Angela talked to thought she should just call him. After all, what did she have to lose? There were lots of explanations for why a woman answered the phone when she called. She should probably just give him the benefit of the doubt. But not only did Angela not think a guy that attractive would be interested in her, she also had some prejudices about how attractive men treat women. She assumed that he would be the kind of guy who would end up cheating on her, or seeing lots of women, or maybe cheating on some other serious girlfriend by seeing her. She recognized that it was flawed thinking, but she still couldn't get over it.

She resolved to call him, though. After all, men do that sort of thing all the time.

And now Sean was working his way free. It could turn out to be an interesting year.
