![]() | Near the corner of the house and centered between the two clumps of oak trees is an open gazebo-like structure. It's made of six iron posts, each welded into the shape of an extruded asterisk (LMNO Arts, the artists who made the sculptures for our garden show exhibit, make an arbor with posts like this). Spanning the area defined by the posts are beams made of glue-laminated wood. Glue-lam has the advantage of being scalable and moldable so that the beams can be made in the size and shape needed. Its light color will contrast nicely with the rusty dark iron, too. |
| I chose to make an open gazebo so that the client's view of the oaks above her is not interrupted. The gazebo posts provide a needed vertical focal point for the back yard without interrupting the view across the back yard. It can be reached from the house directly, as well as from hidden paths that follow the edge of the creek bank. | ![]() |
