One of those little life updates from the void... I recently got done (as of Saturday) with being in the long-awaited Picnic Day Fashion Show, which, as you may have guessed from reading that little blurb, was er, difficult to put together after a year's hiatus. We didn't have any dress rehearsal until a half hour before the show started, which was scary. I was seriously worried that we weren't going to have it all together in time, and to be truthful we didn't in one area. Our announcer was completely out of sync with how people had been thrown in at the very last minute *sigh*. Oh well, I got complimented up the wazoo that day, so that was great and flattering.I got a nice compliment on one of my pieces for work the other day. I had to write up an editorialish article recommending what to go to at Picnic Day, and I put in some silly comments about my family (my aunt, uncle and cousins are dog-obsessed and there's a lot of dog events during the day, for example), etc. to liven it up. Our former humor columnist came up to me the other day and said he really liked that and I should write funny more often. And perhaps do a column of my own. I'd really like to do that, but given the current economy/budget cuts we've had going on (almost all of our columnists have either had their time cut in half or their column cut entirely in order to preserve jobs like mine) I suspect that won't be happening this year. But hey, I could practice up.
School's not as horrible as it's been all year- at least so far my workload is less. We haven't done much in my silly sculpture class (think along the lines of Christo in the arboretum here) beyond look at slides so far, though that's going to change. The computer class is about databases, and I'm apparently the teacher's favorite to call on for my design background. As for fabric dyeing, well, I just received perhaps the worst insult I've ever heard on a project in my life: "Your project remind me of when I was trying to play the violin again. My taste was better than my skills." And that was the only "positive" thing she said about it. And it really wasn't as horrible as other things I've done before- I had some problems with the dye because someone in the department had screwed it up, but she knew it wasn't my fault. But having an entire class in which I'm the only one who ever has any boo-boos or blotches or any imperfections at all is not good for my grade *sigh* It's almost over, it's almost over...My mom made me sign up for graduation stuff Saturday and it was very strange to do. "Huh, what, I have to buy the cap and gown NOW?" And yup, I done had another birthday. All the horoscopes I've seen lately are along the lines of "The last two years of hell are over, good times ahead," and I hope that's true. |
