Alright...the FCCE is cleared,
It's been interesting at my "new" job. Well, it's really my old one, but I've got a new boss and teammates now, so even though I'm sitting in the same chair, working on the same terminal (with an extra piece of prototype hardware hooked up externally), and there have been a few more layoffs, well, it really feels like a new job.
The truth is I am growing weary of poking registers and reading hexadecimal printouts all day long. I mean, I can read hexadecimal easy, but constantly, over and over, for most of the day? Nope. I'll wig out if I do that too much. :) So, yeah, low level software is not for me - I want to get back to writing applications and other higher level algorithms like I was before the layoffs hit. The new group that moved in downstairs (same company, just different division) has a need for a software guy for several data conversion needs, but they haven't got an official opening yet, so we'll see about that.
Then again, aside my job search I've also been looking at Americorps. Yes, I've actually been considering blazing trails in national forests or tutoring kids in computers. It doesn't pay that much of course, but they seem to take care of you in other ways as well: healthcare, dorm room, helping you pay off your school loans...it sounds fun.
In other possibilites, I'm taking the CISSP (Certified Information Security) exam coming up in March. One of my friends up in the northeast has a job doing computer forensics and other computer security related matters. I've always had an interest in security and with my software background mixed in, who knows? Of course, this means that I might be going back into the world of government contractors, but at this point, I'm not willing to judge an entire industry by just one company that I've had qualms with in the past.
By this point, I probably sound like the biggest job-snob in the world. Some people would tell me that "jobs aren't always fun" or "be glad you even have a job right now", but you know what? No. I'm too stubborn for that mindset. There are less opportunities out there right now, yes, but that doesn't mean that they aren't out there. In fact, in the past couple of months I've been seeing a slow turn-around in the software market through talking to my friends in different cities.
So yeah, here we go again. :)

And the two BRGs I'm using are setup correctly,
But when I set the transmit enable bit on the GFMR...
Ack!...(hits reset on the board, reboots VxWorks)
