She gets the house and the garden
He gets the boys in the band
Some of them his friends
Some of them her friends
Some of them understand

       -"Her Town Too" James Taylor

I'm taking a departure from the story, since I feel a need to talk out a couple things.

First off, and to get this out of the way, physically I'm getting better. I'm feeling stronger and starting to get both endurance and balance back. My diabetes is being controlled, both with insulin and medicine. I've lost significant amounts of weight and am continuing to lose, albeit slowly.

My friends tend to come to me for advice and an ear. I've got two couples, both of whom are about to divorce, each coming to me for advice. I listen, having been divorced once I tell them what I went through. I feel like the third group in the song lyric I posted above, I understand, or think I do. Maybe that's arrogance, maybe not. I'm also listening to and talking to two other friends who've lost parents recently, having lost my father 3 years ago (jeez, has it been that long? Guess so) and talking about their situations and how it's universal it is to lose a parent and just how much that hurts. Luckily, all of these people are pretty well balanced, so it's no problem to talk to them, in fact I love them all enough to talk to them as much as they need, and it's good for me too.

Then there's the other one - the one that makes me crazy, the one that frustrates me no end. This is one of those people who drive you nuts, drive you nuts again and again and then does something wonderful that makes the nutsiness almost worth it. You feel like you can't abandon them, in part because of the wonderful things and in part because you know they need it, and you love them enough not to abandon them. You ever deal with one of those?
