I'm Cheryl, and I'm either brave or foolhardy enough to post using my real name. I live and work in the original Silicon Valley, the metropolitan area where nerds are probably in the majority and finally get some respect. I guess you could say I'm a nerd-in-recovery. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and worked for almost four years as a programmer. But I got better. I then worked in a small (really small!) software company as the "make it prettier" person, doing all graphic design, icon design, web design, illustration, and technical writing. In the spring of 1999, I decided to make yet another career change. I'm now going to school to become a landscape designer, and I am having a great time! Hopefully it's not just because I'm back to being a student. |

I've been married since the fall of '89 (we were married about a month before the Loma Prieta earthquake--nice of it to provide me with an easy-to-remember temporal landmark!) to an architect named Wayne. We live in a 1949 house in Santa Clara, which you can see on our home page. I'm a rabid gardener with an obsession for creeping thymes and minor obsessions for roses, bulbs, and other herbs. I'm also a big fan of the rock band, Rush. | ![]() |
| I love to read, particularly science fantasy (Katherine Kurtz, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Terry Pratchett, among others). I'm an Anglophile with a strong interest in British and European history. I'm also very fond of Wales--I'd love to spend a year there learning Welsh despite a complete absence of any gift for languages--a fondness I trace back to my favorite children's book or series: The Dark Is Rising, by Susan Cooper. One of the things that originally tied me to the SpotBoard, in fact, was learning how many other SpotBoarders are Dark is Rising fans--V Chip, Vicki, and Rick Munoz, among others. |

If you really want to learn even *more* about me, you can visit my home page at http://www.best.com/~renshaw/ where you can peruse my garden plant list and read my friend Puanani's story about meeting two of the members of Rush (and getting my banner signed in the process!). |
